STEM Curriculum & Activity Designer (K-5th Grade)
Part-Time Contract | Remote, LA, or Bay Area
About Tappity
A child's curiosity is endless. That’s why we created Tappity—a safe place for kids where they can find every topic they love and discover new ones. All on their own, with no grown-up help required! Our goal for Tappity is ambitious: to build the world’s largest library of interactive lessons for kids.
Inside Tappity’s library today, you’ll find bite-sized lessons covering hundreds of science topics taught by our teachers. But unlike with YouTube, kids can interact with our videos, so our live-action characters will actually react and respond to them in real time. Why? Because we discovered kids simply have more fun and are more engaged when they’re more than just an audience member.
Although our team is small, we’re gaining popularity with families across the world. Over 150,000 kids have played with Tappity, and our lessons have been completed more than 30 million times. We’re currently the #1 science app for kids on the App Store, and we’ve been featured by the New York Times, Motherly, Apple, and national TV shows like Live with Kelly & Ryan.
The Role
We’re looking for a creative STEM curriculum designer at Tappity who will assist in creating lesson plans for 4-10 year olds as a part of our Tappity Live Class series. You’ll be partnering with our writing team to deliver fun, engaging, well-researched scripts about all kinds of science and wonder-based phenomena. Our production team will then turn them into live interactive classes!
Responsibilities include:
Researching, planning, and drafting content outlines for our science classes
Collaborating with our writers to deliver scripts on a timely basis
Fact-checking scripts for accuracy and reviewing them to ensure they’re age-appropriate for our target audience (4-10)
Partnering with the founders to plan and execute against our long-term content roadmap
Our team is primarily based in California but this role is remote as long as you are able to attend meetings during Pacific Time business hours. While this role is currently on contract basis (5-15 hours/week), there may be an opportunity for it to convert into a full-time role in the future.
Who We’re Looking for
You’re creative and maybe even a tinkerer! If you design fun crafts on your own time or have tested different ways to make the “Egg Drop” experiment even more fun for kids, this is the job for you. You’ll have free reign to design new activities.
You’re excited about creating educational content for kids! We’re building the world’s largest library for interactive videos with cutting-edge technology, and you’ll play a big role in helping Tappity achieve this goal.
You have a knack for explaining complex science topics to a broad audience! You’ll be providing guidance to our writers so our science explanations are age-appropriate, interesting, and accessible. And if you’re a science buff yourself, with either practical or academic knowledge in the sciences, even better!
You enjoy working independently and efficiently! We’re a small startup, so we operate in a fast-paced environment. While the team will always be available to answer questions, we expect you to be a self-starter.
Bonus points but not required:
You’re familiar with the Next Generation Science Standards
You’ve had experience working with kids or on kids media, which may include stints as an educator, teacher, content creator, or even an early education researcher.
You’re based in Los Angeles
