About Tappity

A child's curiosity is endless. That’s why we created Tappity—a safe place for kids to explore every topic they love and discover new ones. No grown-up help required! We have an ambitious goal to build the world’s largest library of interactive and educational content for kids—starting with science!

Inside Tappity today, you’ll find bite-sized episodes covering hundreds of kid-friendly science topics taught by entertainers aka Tappity Tinkerers. But unlike with YouTube, kids can actually interact with them by voting and changing the outcome in a show! With our interactive technology, we’re inventing ways to make digital learning more fun and engaging than any platform out there.

Although our team is small, we’re popular with families all around the world. Over 150,000 kids have played Tappity, and our lessons have been completed more than 30 million times. We’re currently the #1 science app for kids on the App Store, and we’ve been featured by the New York Times, Motherly, Apple, Common Sense Media, and national TV shows like Live with Kelly & Ryan.

The Role

We’re looking for our next group of Tappity Tinkerers or hosts to perform in our Live shows. You will be live-streaming from our set to our global audience of families. During the show, you’ll be entertaining kids while explaining and demonstrating amazing science phenomena. As a host, you’ll be working on a one-of-a-kind production—not only will you get to perform but you’ll also be interacting with the audience live. Imagine HQTrivia for kids. This is a unique opportunity to be a part of the team who’s building the next generation platform for the next Bill Nye the Science Guy.

Your responsibilities:

  • Play a knowledgeable science guide

  • Host 4-8 live shows per week (each show is ~20 minutes, 1-2 full days per week)

  • Complete crafts projects, science experiments, and drawing activities on camera live with the help of our production team

  • Perform a written script from a teleprompter and vamp as live feedback comes in from the audience

  • Attend rehearsal meetings 1x a week

Who We’re Looking for

  • You have a knack for connecting and engaging with a young audience! Our writing team will help you with the science explanations but you’ll be responsible for building a relationship with our young audience, The Tappernauts!

  • You’re excited about science yourself! We want your enthusiasm to come through during the classes.

  • You’re comfortable rolling with the punches! Sometimes science experiments don’t work out live and that’s okay. We’d like to see you handle it with grace. Don’t worry, we can advise you in such scenarios.

  • You’re able to multitask while hosting. You’ll often be reading lines and doing other tasks simultaneously.

  • You’re comfortable or thrive in fast-paced environments. As a startup, we’re constantly experimenting with set changes, ideas, and more, so expect that changes will likely happen between rehearsal and production.

  • Bonus points but not required:

    • You’ve been a teacher or educator

    • You’ve had experience working with kids or on kids media, which may include stints as an educator, teacher, content creator, or even an early education researcher.

Skills:

  • Reading from teleprompters

  • Interacting with live audiences remotely

  • Experienced in improvisation acting techniques

  • Experienced in stand-up comedy

  • Hosting experience is desired

Genders: All genders

Age: 18-65

Production Date & Location:

  • Weekend hours may be required for this role.

  • Shoot 4-8 shows in a day. A show is less than 20 minutes.

  • Exact schedule each week is flexible and negotiable.

  • Shooting will be in Los Angeles, and will begin in March 2021. Remote opportunities may be available in the future.

  • If there’s a good fit, this could be a recurring role that lasts 1 or more years.
